Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, during the joint congress with Jamaican Prime Minister Andrew Holness, said the partnership between India and Jamaica was based on the culture of 4Cs, Cricket, Commonwealth and CARICOM.
Modi said India-Jamaica relations are rooted in our common history, shared democratic values and close people-to-people ties.
Modi said that during the meeting with Andrew Holness, the two leaders discussed strengthening our cooperation across sectors and identified several new initiatives. Trade and investment between India and Jamaica is growing. India has always been a reliable and committed development partner in Jamaica's development journey. All of India's efforts in this direction have been focused on the needs of the Jamaican people. Through the ITEC and ICCR scholarships, India has contributed to the skills development and capacity building of the Jamaican population, Modi said.
India and Jamaica may be separated by vast oceans, but our minds, cultures and histories are deeply connected. The people who migrated from India to Jamaica almost 180 years ago laid a strong foundation for our people-to-people connections. Today, the nearly 70,000 people of Indian origin who call Jamaica home are a living example of our shared heritage. I thank Prime Minister Holness and his government for looking after them.
