Boris Johnson claimed a listening device was discovered in his personal bathroom at the Foreign Office following a visit by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in 2017.
In his new book, Unleashed, the former prime minister claims that Netanyahu's security team may have placed a listening device in the Foreign Ministry toilet.
The former prime minister described how Netanyahu excused himself to use the facilities during their meeting.
Johnson wrote that the bathroom, which he described as similar to “men in a posh London club”, was later found to have been bugged during a routine search of surveillance devices .
He also claimed to have learned of the device after Netanyahu's visit. Johnson wrote: “This may or may not be a coincidence, but I was told that later…they found a listening device in the thunder box.”

When asked about the incident during an interview with The telegraphJohnson declined to comment, saying all the details were included in his book.
However, this would not be the first time Israel has been accused of potential surveillance.
In 2019, it was reported that Israel may have installed cell phone surveillance devices near the White House.
Israel has always denied any involvement in the US incident, and it remains unclear whether it has ever faced alleged eavesdropping from the Foreign Ministry.
Netanyahu has a long association with Israeli intelligence services, including Mossad, although he has never worked officially for the agency.
During their meeting, Johnson described Netanyahu as visibly impressed by the history of the Foreign Ministry, particularly when he was shown the office where the Balfour Declaration was supposedly written.
However, in his typical self-deprecating style, Johnson admitted he was unsure whether the desk was truly the one used by Arthur Balfour, pulling out a Bic ballpoint pen instead of a historic pen.
Unleashed's revelations are likely to raise eyebrows, with Johnson's book officially launching on October 10.
