President Joko Jokowi Widodo paid a working visit to LIPA Kalabahi Traditional Market, Alor Regency, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) Province, Thursday, October 3, 2024, for direct inspection of market conditions and prices food products. The President also interacted with traders and local communities during the visit.
President Jokowi said that the price of food products in the LIPA market is normal, although there is a slight difference compared to the prices on Java Island.
I have just inspected the prices in the market, especially the prices of food items. It is still considered normal although higher than prices on the island of Java. Perhaps because of transportation costs, the president said.
Some of the products inspected were garlic, shallots and chili peppers. President Jokowi explained that the price of garlic is Rp 55,000 per kilogram, shallots Rp 50,000 and chili peppers Rp 50,000. “I think it is reasonable,” he added .
The visit is part of the President's efforts to ensure that daily needs remain affordable for people across Indonesia, especially in areas far from distribution centers such as Kalabahi in Alor Regency. Furthermore, the President also discussed business conditions and challenges with traders, especially related to logistics and transportation.
Not only the traders but also the visitors to the market also enthusiastically welcomed the presence of the President in the market. They expressed hope that the government will continue to pay attention to the well-being of the people of eastern Indonesia.
“President Jokowi only came here once during his 2 terms. However, I am delighted because infrastructure development is happening smoothly and uniformly throughout Indonesia.
