Dozens of Imran Khan supporters, including 60 Afghans, arrested in Islamabad

Islamabad police arrested 412 Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) supporters, including 60 Afghans, ahead of the party's planned protest on Friday, October 4. Police said thousands of officers were deployed to prevent protesters from reaching the D-Chowk area.

According to the Express Tribune, these individuals were arrested in the Bara Kahu, Tarnol and Sangjani areas, and police recovered spiked batons, slingshots and stones from them.

Following these arrests, security measures in Islamabad were tightened and security forces were deployed to protect the capital's red zone.

The arrests come as the PTI, led by its founder Imran Khan, had called for protests at D-Chowk on Friday.

Authorities implemented strict security measures to prevent protesters from reaching the protest site, deploying around 4,000 security officers.

Rawalpindi officials also said they arrested more than 150 PTI supporters.

Authorities said security barriers, including containers, had been placed at major entry points from Rawalpindi to Islamabad to control movement.

The arrests and tight security measures reflect the government's determination to prevent any disruption to the planned PTI protest. With thousands of security personnel deployed and key areas blocked off, authorities are struggling to maintain law and order in and around Islamabad.

However, the presence of Afghan nationals among those arrested raises questions about the PTI's political influence among the Afghan diaspora in Pakistan.
