Imran Khan's PTI invites EAM Jaishankar to speak at party event in Pakistan

Lawyer Ali Saif, provincial information advisor of Khyber Pakhtoonkhwa, said world leaders come to Pakistan and “we want to show them our democracy.”

Former Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan's Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf (PTI) party has invited Foreign Minister Jaishankar to join protests in the neighboring country and speak. According to reports, the PTI has sought India's help in ending the protests and anarchy in Pakistan.

Sources said that Barrister Ali Saif, Provincial Information Advisor of Pakistan's Khyber Pakhtoonkhwa, had invited India to join the PTI protest to strengthen the state of Pakistan.

The PTI said it would invite the Indian Foreign Minister to participate in the PTI rally and address the party workers and the nation. PTI will invite Jaishankar, Indian Foreign Minister, to come and join the PTI protest, speak to our people and see that Pakistan is a strong democracy where everyone has the right to protest, Ali Saif said.

Speaking during a program on GEO News, he said that world leaders are coming to Pakistan and we want to show them our democracy.

S Jaishankar to visit Pakistan

EAM's Dr S Jaishankar will travel to Pakistan later this month to attend the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) heads of government summit. This would be Jaishankar's first visit to Pakistan as India's foreign minister. Jaishankar's trip also marks the first official visit by an Indian foreign minister to Islamabad in nine years.

Addressing a press conference in New Delhi, MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said: EAM Jaishankar will lead a delegation to Pakistan for the SCO summit to be held in Islamabad on October 15-16.

Relations between India and Pakistan deteriorated after the Uri terrorist attack in 2016. India has always maintained that no relations with Pakistan are possible until it stops funding and sponsoring terrorism.

Asked about a bilateral meeting with Pakistan, the MEA said, “EAM is leading a delegation and what will be their plans in the run-up to the meeting we will share.

The MEA has criticized Pakistan for hosting controversial Islamic preacher Zakir Naik. We are not surprised that a fugitive from Indian justice received a high-level welcome in Pakistan. It's disappointing and condemnable, but like I said, it's not surprising, Jaiswal said.

The MEA today for the first time accepted that India raised this issue with the Malaysian Prime Minister during his visit.
