Elon Musk said he would join Donald Trump for a campaign rally at the site of the former president's assassination attempt in July.

Musk, 53, announced Friday that he would appear at the event in Butler, Pennsylvania, the following day.

Trump, who served as U.S. president from 2017 to 2021, is in the midst of a tight race for a second term in November, and Pennsylvania is a key state.

Trump's running mate, Sen. JD Vance, and his son, Eric Trump, will also be in attendance Saturday.

I'll be there to support, Musk wrote on his social media platform X, retweeting Trump's own promotion of the rally.

The CEO of SpaceX and Tesla has become increasingly close to Trump in recent months.

After Trump, 78, was shot by a gunman, with the bullet grazing his ear, Musk announced he would support the Republican in his bid to win a second term.

“I fully support President Trump and hope for his speedy recovery,” Musk wrote after the incident.

He later posted: The martyr survived.

The July 13 shooting, however, killed a Trump supporter, Corey Comperatore, who was listening to the former president speak. Several others were injured.

The growing influence of musks

Musk has become more politically engaged in the run-up to the November election, frequently posting about his support for Trump and attacking Democrats.

Last month, Musk deleted one of his posts claiming that no one was even trying to assassinate President Joe Biden or Vice President Kamala Harris, the former and current Democratic nominee, respectively.

Amid the ensuing outcry, Musk called his comment a joke. It turns out that jokes are much less funny if people don't know the context and if the delivery is in plain text, he said.

Earlier this year, Musk said he would contribute $45 million to a political action committee, America PAC, that supported Trump's candidacy.

Trump has often spoken warmly of Musk, even saying he supports the billionaires' production of electric vehicles, although he has long attacked the industry saying it harms workers at traditional auto factories.

In August, Trump agreed to be interviewed by Musk on X. During their hour-long conversation, the former president said he admired the fact that Musk fired some of his employees after they are complained about working conditions.

I love it, Trump said. I'm watching what you're doing. You come in and you just say: Do you want to stop? They go on strike. I won't mention the name of the company, but they go on strike and you say: It's okay. You are all gone. Every one of you is gone.

Trump also pledged to appoint Musk to head a proposed Office of Government Efficiency that would cut regulations and audit other branches of government.

Musk's support for Trump is not his first foray into politics. Musk publicly feuded with Brazilian Supreme Court Justice Alexandre de Moraes, and in May 2023 he hosted Florida Governor Ron DeSantis as the Republican politician announced his short-lived bid for president.

As with Elon Musk's conversation with Trump in August, this conversation with DeSantis was broadcast on X and marred by problems.

Butler reprimands evil assassin

Butler's assassination attempt in July sparked ongoing discussions about political violence in the United States, as well as questions about the personnel and training of Secret Service agents charged with protecting Trump.

The shooter, Thomas Matthew Crooks, 20, was killed at the scene when snipers returned fire.

Last month, Trump was also the target of a second assassination plot.

The attempt was foiled by a Secret Service agent who escorted the former president while he played at his private golf course in Florida. The officer allegedly saw the barrel of a gun pointed through a fence and opened fire.

The suspect, Ryan Routh, 58, has pleaded not guilty to five charges, including attempted assassination of a presidential candidate.

Several members of the Comperatores family, as well as others who attended the initial rally in Butler and emergency personnel who responded, will also attend Saturday's rally.

President Trump's return to Butler will be a tribute to the American spirit, his campaign said in a statement.
