Donald Trump deals another blow to Liz Cheney

Former President Donald Trump called Liz Cheney “one of the stupidest people in politics” as the former Republican congresswoman campaigns for the Democratic ticket ahead of November.

Cheney, who represented Wyoming's at-large congressional district, endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris in the 2024 presidential race. The former U.S. representative began distancing herself from Trump while she was still in office, notably by serving on January 6 on the House committee responsible for investigating the siege of the US Capitol led by supporters of the former president. The panel ultimately recommended that a criminal investigation be opened into Trump's actions surrounding the attack.

Trump has long attacked Cheney, who lost her 2022 re-election bid to a Trump-backed Republican. In a message published Friday afternoon in Truth Social, Trump also directed his insults at Cheney's father, former Vice President Dick Cheney, who also supported Harris for president.

“Has Liz Cheney, one of the stupidest people in politics, ever looked at the horrible statements she made about Lyin' Kamala Harris?” Trump wrote in the message.

During her speech, Cheney took a dig at Trump while talking about her status as a prominent conservative leader for decades, telling her supporters, “I was a Republican before Donald Trump even started tanning.”

Trump was furious at the comment on Truth Social later Thursday, writing that Cheney is “pathetic” and has a “low IQ.”
