PM Modi inaugurates Mumbai's first underground metro: BKC to Aarey JVLR section now open | Watch
Mumbai News: Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated on Saturday 14,120 crore from BKC to the Aarey Jogeshwari-Vikhroli Link Road section of Mumbai Metro Line 3 during an event in Thane.
As part of a major effort to boost urban mobility in the region, it launched a planned metro service between BKC and Aarey JVLR in the western part of Mumbai.
He also took the metro between BKC and Santacruz stations.
Mumbai Metro Line 3 is a key public transport project aimed at improving travel between the city of Mumbai and the suburbs.
Line 3, fully operational, is expected to accommodate around 12 lakh passengers per day.
The Prime Minister also laid the foundation stones of various projects of over 32,800 crore, including Thane Integral Ring Metro Rail Project and Elevated Eastern Expressway Extension.
The Thane Integral Ring Metro Rail project will be constructed at a cost of 12,200 billion.
The total length of the project is 29 km with 20 overhead stations and 2 underground stations.
This ambitious infrastructure project is a key initiative to meet the growing transportation needs of Thane, a major industrial and commercial hub of Maharashtra.
The elevated extension of the Eastern Expressway from Chheda Nagar to Anand Nagar, Thane, will provide seamless connectivity from South Mumbai to Thane.
He also laid the foundation stone of the Navi Mumbai Airport Notified Area of Influence (NAINA) project.
The NAINA project will cost approximately 2,550 crore and will include construction of major arterial roads, bridges, flyovers, underpasses and integrated utility infrastructure.
The Prime Minister also laid the foundation stone of the Thane Municipal Corporation, which will be constructed at a cost of 700 million.
Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde and Deputy Chief Ministers Devendra Fadnavis and Ajit Pawar were also present at the event in Thane.
Modi began his visit to Maharashtra on Saturday, starting with prayers at the Jagdamba Mata temple in Poharadevi.
