Jokowi admits not leading Prabowo-Gibran cabinet: prerogative of the president
TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – President Joko Widodo assures not to interfere in business cupboard in the next government. Jokowi stressed that cabinet discussions were the prerogative of the president-elect.
“As far as the cabinet is concerned, it is a right, a hundred percent prerogative of the president,” Jokowi said when met by the media team at Monas Square, Central Jakarta, after having been inspector of the ceremony of the 79th anniversary of the TNI, Saturday October 5, 2024.
Prabowo Subianto and Gibran Rakabuming Raka were appointed president and vice president-elect because they won the 2024 elections. They are both expected to be inaugurated on October 20, 2024.
Regarding the transition to state leadership, Jokowi admitted that everything went well. He sees no problem with a government transition. “It’s going well, there are no problems,” Jokowi said.
Nevertheless, Gibran Rakabuming Raka's father advised that the necessary bodies should be arranged as early as possible before the inauguration day. He believes it will affect the government transition if the problem is not resolved immediately.
“The bodies that need to be prepared before the inauguration, I think, the laws, can also be completed. I think that will facilitate continuity, it will make things smoother later and also on inauguration day in October. 20,” Jokowi said.

At the TNI's 79th anniversary ceremony, Jokowi particularly congratulated and thanked Prabowo Subianto. Jokowi said Prabowo had improved Indonesia's defense in the face of various challenges.
“In particular, I would like to express my thanks to the Minister of Defense, Mr. Retired TNI General Prabowo Subianto, who is also the President-elect,” Jokowi said in his speech at the TNI 79th anniversary ceremony .
