Mysterious Trump signs appear on New York streets

Mysterious street signs depicting the silhouette of former President Donald Trump have appeared around Staten Island, Bay Ridge and other parts of the city, sparking a mix of confusion, praise and disgust.

“I don’t know who’s doing this, but he’s a fucking genius,” Staten Island artist and activist Scott LoBaido said in a video posted to social media showing a dozen signs, attached to the poles from the street and messages.

“They’re all over the city,” LoBaido added. “Now that’s smart.”

They appeared to have a signature at the bottom, which LoBaido, known for his political work, denied was his.

Some signs appeared this week in Park Slope, near the Brooklyn-Queens Expressway ramp near 92nd Street in Bay Ridge and at the Verrazzano Bridge entrance westbound toward Staten Island and in Park Slope this week.

“What the hell?” I mean, what is this…Trump passage? said one perplexed social media user in a video taken of a sign in Bay Ridge, shared by the New Yorkers Instagram page.

“Regardless of a person's political opinion…it's really funny,” one commenter said.

“I think it means 'this is MAGA country,'” another suggested.

“No swing to the right,” someone else joked, referring to the right-wing candidate’s party.

Others were more supportive of the representation of Republican candidates on the yellow and black signs.

“I need it!!!” a man commented on LoBaido's post. “My neighborhood would love this,” someone else said. Many asked how they could also install signs in their area.

One near a Bay Ridge Sunoco was taken apart — by someone who then posted it on their own truck, according to a gas station employee.

Others saw this as a real warning sign against the former president, but it is unclear whether these signs are for or against him.

“It’s a warning sign – a big orange warning sign,” one woman said.

“Nothing blue paint can’t fix,” commented one apparent left-hander.

“Take that off!!!,” some urged.

One of the Park Slope signs was removed by the city's Department of Transportation, which said it was “not an authorized sign,” News 12 Brooklyn reported.
