Chinese, North Korean leaders exchange messages on 75th anniversary of diplomatic ties
North Korea reported that its leader Kim Jong Un and Chinese President Xi Jinping sent telegrams to each other to celebrate 75 years of diplomatic relations.
The newspaper of North Korea's ruling Workers' Party, Rodong Sinmun, carried messages from the two leaders on Sunday, the anniversary.
Kim's message said developing friendly relations serves the fundamental interests of the two countries. He stressed that North Korea will constantly strive to consolidate and develop its friendly relations, as required by the new era.
Xi said in his message that he had maintained close communications with Kim through several meetings. He expressed hope to mark the 75th anniversary by announcing that China is willing to strengthen strategic communications and deepen friendly exchanges and cooperation with North Korea.
The report comes amid international speculation that relations between the two countries are deteriorating, as little trade has taken place recently.
South Korea's National Intelligence Service reported in its analysis to Parliament in September that relations between China and North Korea have deteriorated significantly. He noted that China has recently been reluctant to accept North Korean workers.
