IHC sends notices to Home Secretary and Prison Superintendent regarding lawyers who denied access to Imran Khan in prison

ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad High Court (IHC) has issued notices to the interior secretary and superintendent of Adiala Prison for allegedly denying lawyers access to former Prime Minister Imran Khan in jail.

Justice Saman Rifat Imtiaz presided over the hearing on Imran Khan's contempt of court petition and asked the lawyer to look into other legal aspects.

During the proceedings, Justice Saman noted that there had been no violation of a court order in this case.

She pointed out that a two-member bench of the High Court had earlier ordered the creation of standard operating procedures (SOPs) for such situations. Justice Saman further said that any motion for contempt of court should be submitted to that specific jurisdiction if a violation had taken place.

Expressing reservations, Justice Saman added, I express an opinion, but I am not satisfied with the grounds for contempt of court in this case. She then adjourned the hearing after issuing the notice to the Home Secretary and the Superintendent of Adiala Prison.

The petition was filed by Intizar Panjotha Advocate, who named the Home Secretary and the Superintendent of Adiala Prison as parties to the case.
