NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday met Phalak-Phralam, also known as Phra Lak Phra Ram, in Vientiane, Laos. Phalak-Phralam is a Laotian adaptation of the Ramayana and performed by the Royal Theater of Luang Prabang.
“Prime Minister Narendra Modi witnessed an episode of the Lao Ramayan. The Ramayan continues to be celebrated in Laos, and the epic reflects the common heritage and centuries-old civilizational bond between the two countries,” said the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MEA) in a press release. release.

The MEA added: “Several facets of Indian culture and tradition have been practiced and preserved in Laos for centuries. The two countries work closely together to highlight their common heritage. Before the Ramayana performance, the Prime Minister also participated in a blessing ceremony by senior Buddhist monks from Laos. “I met respected monks and spiritual leaders of Lao PDR, who were happy to see the honor bestowed on Pali by the people of India. Prime Minister Modi is on a two-day visit to Laos to participate in the 21st Asean-India Summit and the 19th East Asia Summit.
