Drawing lessons from Switzerland, Jokowi mentions importance for IR to have a “country image”
Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) spoke about the importance of a country's national values. Indonesia needs this so that more people want to invest.
“A country needs a country image, just like a company needs to build good brand value,” Jokowi said at the Kompas 100 CEO Forum, at Garuda Palace, IKN, Friday (10/11/2024) .
Jokowi said a country's image is the same as a company's brand value. In this way, trust or attraction is formed and shapes perception.
“The country is also the one we built for 10 years, we tried to create global trust,” Jokowi said.
He gave the example of Switzerland, which has a country image known as a neutral country. Switzerland has thus become a haven for investors who wish to save funds and for international institutions who flock to their headquarters in Switzerland.
“Also, if we look at a product, if it says made in Japan, made in Germany, we think the item is durable, good quality, expensive. Therefore, the image of the country is important, but to build it takes time, it takes a process “We need consistency from the government, the private sector and society,” Jokowi said.
He also noted that confidence is starting to emerge in Indonesia, as evidenced by the willingness of FIFA and FIBA to build offices in Jakarta.
