Boris Johnson calls PM Modi a 'change maker' with 'Astral Energy' in new memoir

Speaking about the first meeting which took place across the Thames in 2012, Johnson said: “I can feel Prime Minister Modi's curious astral energy, even as he held his arm raised in front of a crowd of supporters Indians.
Johnson, who served two terms as mayor of London, described the Indian prime minister as the change-maker that this India-UK relationship needs.
“With Modi, I was sure that we could conclude a great free trade agreement and also build a long-term partnership, as friends and equals,” he wrote in his memoirs.
The book recounts the “huge success” of his first visit to India as Prime Minister of the United Kingdom in April 2022, when he first landed in Ahmedabad and visited the Sabarmati Ashram.
As Johnson's book makes clear, it lifted his morale and was a “soul balm” to his moribund spirit in the face of his country's tumultuous political scene.
The joint statement following the meeting between the two leaders at the Hyderabad House on April 22, 2022 expressed concerns over the “ongoing conflict and humanitarian crisis in Ukraine in the strongest terms”. In this regard, Johnson wrote that he wanted India to rethink its relations with Russia.
“I wondered if it wasn't time to change, to rethink. As I had to tell the Indians, the Russian missiles were proving statistically less accurate than my first serve in tennis. Did they really want to keep Russia as the main supplier of military equipment? he writes in his unbridled style.
