Gohar says PTI founder is not allowed to exercise and demands better facilities. Jail administrator says former PM has been provided with all facilities as per prison manual and is under regular monitoring

ISLAMABAD: As PTI acting president complained about the conditions party founder Imran Khan had to endure in Adiala jail, the jail administration on Saturday clarified that the former prime minister was enjoying all the facilities available in class B and in accordance with the prison manual.

Addressing a press conference after a meeting with the PTI founder, lawyer Gohar Ali Khan claimed that Imran Khan was not getting facilities in jail and that the power supply to his cell had remained disconnected for the past five last days. He alleged that the electricity remained off in Imran Khan's cell for five days and that he had not exercised for the last two weeks.

After October 3, we had a 45-minute meeting with the founding president in Adiala prison. The good news is that Mr. Khan appeared to be in good health. However, for the first time in his life, the founding president shared the situation of his cell at Adiala Prison. He told us that there had been no electricity in his cell for five days and that he had not exercised in two weeks.

According to lawyer Gohar, he informed us that he had been deprived of television for two weeks and was not aware of any development regarding the constitutional amendment. He (Imran) also criticized the arrest of his sisters, he said.

We hoped we would be allowed to meet [him] for an hour and a half but we were asked to leave after 45 minutes. Imran Khan gave us four names and suggested we discuss them [the draft of the amendment] with them. We will try to meet Mr Khan again on Monday, he said.

Responding to a question, he said it was unacceptable for the government to threaten people. Replying to another question, he said Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur had the full support of Mr Khan.

All facilities for Imran

On the other hand, the prison administration has refuted these assertions. The prison director clarified that the PTI founder was enjoying all the facilities as per the rules and regulations of Class B status.

The prison official clarified that the PTI chief had all necessary facilities as per law and rules, including food, health, studies and exercise.

The power supply to the PTI founders' barracks is uninterrupted. The Punjab government has provided a prisoner to prepare meals for him, who prepares breakfast, lunch and dinner, he said.

While giving details of meals for the past few days, he said coffee, chia seeds, beetroot juice, yogurt and dates were provided to the PTI founder for breakfast; chicken, yogurt, coke, salad and green tea for lunch; and porridge, coconut, coconut water and grapes for dinner. The prison director said that the meals of the PTI founders were prepared under the supervision of the deputy director and served after proper monitoring.

Doctors sent to the prison check the prisoners' health three times a day and all their vital signs are checked regularly. Over the past two weeks, the prisoner has not revealed any illness and is in perfect health, he said.

Responding to PTI leaders' claims that only one doctor from the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (Pims) had visited Mr Khan for his check-up, the prison superintendent said that two days ago, specialist doctors from Pims Islamabad had examined the PTI founder. carefully and prepared a comprehensive report which was sent to the government and PTI leadership.

Talking about the media facilities, he said the PTI founder also had a daily newspaper. Besides, the PTI founder had walking and exercise facilities and he spent two hours a day exercising in the open courtyard of his barracks, he claimed.

The Prison Administration is carrying out its duties regarding the safety, security and health of the PTI founder in accordance with the prison rules, regulations and facilities provided by the government, he said.
