Details of challan against Imran Khan and others revealed

Challan details in the case of attack on Pakistan Headquarters (GHQ) in Rawalpindi during the May 9 unrest showed that Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founding chairman Imran Khan along with other defendants, face a total of 27 serious charges.

Copies of the challan were distributed to 28 accused, including former interior minister Sheikh Rashid Ahmed, PTI's Usman Dar and Raja Basharat, for the prosecution process.

However, Imran Khan did not receive a copy due to lack of trial in prison, which postponed his arraignment to a later date.

According to the Challan, the accused attacked the GHQ under the leadership of former provincial law minister Raja Basharat, breaking down the doors and violently confronting military personnel, Express News reported.

The attackers vandalized sensitive military properties, setting fires and launching assaults with sticks and stones, as well as Molotov cocktails.

The attackers broke through the gate of GHQ and entered the premises, attempting to create an environment of insurgency in the country.

They smashed windows of the headquarters building, damaged the reputation of the Pakistan Army and targeted military personnel while chanting anti-state slogans.

The assault extended to the ISI building, carried out as part of a planned criminal conspiracy, leading to the arrest of six accused on the spot, with further arrests on their identification.

The Challan has sought severe punitive action against the accused. Three prosecution witnesses – former member of the National Assembly Sadqat Abbasi, former deputy speaker of the Punjab Assembly Waqas Qayoom Abbasi and former member of the provincial assembly Umar Tanveer Butt – turned hostile and filed petitions accordingly.

Meanwhile, the Special Anti-Terrorism Court, headed by Justice Amjad Ali Shah, adjourned the hearing into the GHQ attack to October 30.

Prison authorities yesterday barred the judge from entering Adiala prison, saying no hearing could take place that day. In a letter to the judge, the prison director explained the situation, which led to the hearing being postponed until October 30.

Imran Khan's lawyers have submitted requests regarding telephone communications with his sons, meetings with his legal team and medical examinations. The court completed hearings on these applications and reserved its decision.

Moreover, Anti-Terrorism Court Administrative Judge Raja Jawad Abbas extended the interim bail of PTI General Secretary Salman Akram Raja in a case registered for protesting before the Supreme Court till October 28.

Additionally, the post-arrest bail applications of Imran Khan's sisters Aleema and Azma were postponed to October 22 due to the judge's permission.
