JAKARTA, Oct. 20 (Xinhua) — Former Indonesian army general Prabowo Subianto was sworn in as the country's eighth president in parliament on Sunday morning, succeeding Joko Widodo, who led the country's fourth-most populated the world over the last decade. .

Prabowo, who was defense minister, and his running mate, Gibran Rakabuming Raka, Widodo's eldest son and former mayor of Surakarta, won the 2024 presidential election held on February 14.

In his inauguration speech, Prabowo pledged to serve all Indonesians. “We will prioritize the interests of the nation and the state above all else,” he said in his address to the nation.

After the ceremony, Prabowo, 73, and Gibran, 37, the youngest vice president in Indonesia's history, will be greeted by an enthusiastic crowd as they head to the state palace.
