Former President Jokowi arrived safely in his hometown of Surakarta
Joko Widodo and Ma'ruf Amin were replaced by Prabowo Subianto and Gibran Rakabuming Raka as President and Vice President of Indonesia for the 2024-2029 term.
Surakarta, Central Java (ANTARA) – Former President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) and his wife Iriana arrived in their hometown of Surakarta, Central Java, after handing over the presidency to Prabowo Subianto in Jakarta on Sunday morning.
According to Surakarta Acting Mayor Dhoni Widiyanto, his team prepared a welcome ceremony for Jokowi and Iriana at their residence in Sumber Village, Banjarsari Subdistrict, Surakarta.
“Once (Jokowi and Iriana) arrived at their residence in Sumber village, we prepared a simple welcome ceremony for them,” he said on Sunday.
The simple ceremony was organized at the request of Jokowi himself, as confirmed by the Surakarta Government's Head of Protocol, Communication and Public Administration, Sulistiarini.
The Indonesian Air Force (TNI-AU) Boeing 737 military plane carrying the former leader landed safely at Adi Soemarmo Airport in Boyolali District, west of Surakarta , around 4 p.m. local time.
They were greeted by thousands of residents lining the road they were crossing. Residents enthusiastically welcomed Jokowi and Iriana returning home after spending more than a decade in Jakarta.
Some residents carried banners expressing gratitude to the former leader.
Meanwhile, municipal leaders and local figures welcomed Jokowi and Iriana to their residence in Sumber Village. One of the local figures is KGPAA Mangkunegara X, the young ruler of the traditional Mangkunegaran dynasty based in Surakarta.

Prabowo and Gibran were sworn in during the plenary session of the People's Consultative Assembly (MPR) at the Parliament Complex in Jakarta on Sunday morning.
A total of 709 of the 731 MPR members attended the inauguration. National figures, leaders of political parties and representatives of friendly countries also participated in the plenary session.
