Imran Khan's sisters released on bail

Islamabad, Oct 25 (PTI) A Pakistani court on Friday granted bail to two sisters of former Prime Minister Imran Khan, who were arrested during a protest here earlier this month in alleged cases of fight against terrorism.

The bail release of Aleema Khan and Uzma Khan came a day after Khan's wife, Bushra Bibi, was released after about nine months in jail.

The two sisters were arrested during Khan's Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party protest in the national capital on October 4 in a case registered at Kohsar police station on anti-terrorism charges.

They had contested the arrest.

Judge Abul Hasanat Zulqarnain of the Islamabad-based anti-terrorism court accepted their bail against sureties of Rs 20,000 each.

Earlier, the judge ordered all unrelated people to leave the courtroom before lawyer Niazullah Niazi began his arguments, saying the arrest of the two sisters was illegal as they were arrested on October 4 and presented to court before October 6.

This arrest has become illegal and deserves immediate release, he said.

Earlier on October 4, the two sisters were arrested from D-Chowk as the PTI staged protest demonstrations in the heart of the national capital and a case was registered against them at Kohsar police station for terrorism .

On October 7, the court remanded them into custody for further physical detention.

Khan's sisters' bail was accepted on Friday a day after Bushra Bibi was released after about nine months in prison in the Toshakhana corruption case. After her release, she went to Peshawar, the capital of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa province, where Khans PTI is in power.

She was first arrested on January 31 after a court convicted and sentenced the couple to 14 years in prison in the Toshakhana case which involves corruption allegations against Khan and his wife for profiting from the sale of gifts received from foreign dignitaries.PTI SH NPK NPK
