Elon Musk has had repeated phone conversations with Russian President Vladimir Putin and even appears to do whatever he wants.
In interviews with the The Wall Street Journalfederal officials on both sides of the Atlantic have confirmed that since late 2022, Musk has had numerous secret phone calls with the Russian leader in which they discussed everything from their personal lives to world politics.
A former Russian intelligence official told the newspaper that in one of those conversations, Putin asked the billionaire not to activate his Starlink internet satellites over Taiwan, as a supposed “favor” to China and its president , Xi Jinping.
Although this request was made during a period of cooperation between Russia and China, it is unclear what its motivation would have been. Given that Beijing views the sovereign state as part of its territory and Xi's apparent desire to “reunite“both countries, it certainly seems political.
Although there is no official confirmation as to whether Musk acquiesced or not, the fact that Taiwan still does not have access to Starlink seems proof enough that at least it has not turned on its satellites above the island nation since a few reason.
