Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang Reveals PM Modi's Early AI Initiatives Surprised Him: About 6 Years Ago
Jensen Huang, CEO of artificial intelligence (AI) giant Nvidia, revealed that six years ago, Prime Minister Narendra Modi asked him to address his cabinet on AI, according to a report from 'India Today.
“About 6 years ago, when I first met Modi Ji, he asked me to meet his cabinet and talk to him about artificial intelligence,” Jensen Huang said, according to the India Today report .
The Nvidia CEO also said he was surprised to hear this because “it took a long time before anyone talked about artificial intelligence.”
He made the comments during his recent meeting with Reliance Industries Ltd Chairman Mukesh Ambani in Mumbai.
Furthermore, Huang said that during his last visit to India, Prime Minister Modi told him that it makes perfect sense for India to make its own AI, instead of outsourcing data to import intelligence .
According to the report, Huang recently said that India should stop providing its labor for software development done elsewhere.
“Why export the workforce when the software is built elsewhere? Why not make the intelligence here and then export it.
“You have the data, the energy and the infrastructure. You have the essential ingredients in the country to be able to harvest the raw data and turn it into intelligence,” he added. “Many Indians will enjoy Hindi on their phones, all over the world. These tokens should be made here (India). This intelligence should be made here.”
Chip manufacturing giant Nvidia has signed several strategic partnerships with Indian companies, signaling its commitment to harnessing India's vast potential in artificial intelligence and data ecosystem.
Huang was recently in India for the Nvidia AI Summit held in Mumbai.
Among the many tech enthusiasts, Bollywood actor Akshay Kumar was also present at the event.
Responding to Kumar's question on the impact of artificial intelligence on employment, Huang said that AI will not have a direct impact on jobs, but whoever does not use the tools to Improving your efficiency at work will surely be impacted by whoever does it.
