Former PM Imran Khan's petition over jail facilities sparks division in PTI legal team – Pakistan

A petition in support of former Prime Minister Imran Khan's jail facilities divided his legal team on Saturday after the party dissociated itself from the petition filed by one of the lawyers Faisal Chaudhry.

Earlier today, Faisal filed a petition in the Islamabad High Court demanding that basic facilities be provided to PTI founder Imran Khan in jail. But the PTI rejected the petition.

The lawyer claimed to have submitted the petition on behalf of the former prime minister. The petition argues that depriving Khan of essential facilities in prison is a violation of the prison manual.

He claimed that the PTI founder was being held in a very small cell, with no access to sports facilities. The petition also claimed that he had been deprived of the ability to eat his own food.

Additionally, the petition demanded that Khan be given access to television and newspapers, which had allegedly been taken away from him.

The petition asserted that the court was the guardian of Khan's human rights and called for the immediate restoration of his rights during his incarceration.

But the PTI removed Faisal from the legal team, with PTI Chairman Gohar Ali Khan saying the petition was submitted to the court without consultation of the legal team and was using an old power of attorney.

He added that a new request regarding facilities for the PTI founder would be filed on Monday, and their own lawyers would handle the request.

Sheikh Waqas Akram supported Gohar's statement.

But Faisal claimed he was not informed or contacted about his deportation.

What matters is the services of a lawyer. If I deliver results, I will stay; if I can't, then my client has the right to choose any lawyer, he said.

As I was about to leave, I informed Khan Sahib that I was going to file this petition, to which he replied: Go ahead. Once Khan Sahibs moves forward, I will not listen to anyone else.
