'March to Islamabad on November 24', Imran Khan gives 'final call' to supporters

RAWALPINDI: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan has called on his supporters to march towards Islamabad on November 24, his lawyer and sister said on Wednesday.

Speaking to reporters in Rawalpindi, lawyer Faisal Chaudhry said: “Imran Khan says this is the last call for a [anti-government] protest. The PTI founder stressed that the entire party leadership would participate in the march.”

The protest will not only take place in Islamabad, but also across Pakistan and the world where Imran's supporters are present, Chaudhry said.

The lawyer said the party founder had also formed a committee for the march and asked not to reveal the names of those who were part of it as Imran feared they would be arrested.

All party leaders are aware of their responsibilities, the lawyer said, adding that the committee would have the power to cancel the protest by ensuring that no one takes charge.

There was a lot of disappointment, as PTI leader Ali Zafar said earlier, when Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur ended the Swabi rally without a date for the protest. This added to the existing frustration of workers participating in the Islamabad protest last month, which ended abruptly.

The lawyer further added that KP CM Gandpur would also lead a convoy from the province as per the instructions of the PTI founder.

Detailing the demands of the protest, Chaudhry said the party demands withdrawal of the controversial 26th constitutional amendment, “return of PTI mandate” and release of imprisoned workers without trial.

Prior to the announcement, sources had informed The News that although the PTI founder had demanded a date for a final protest and possible sit-in in Islamabad, he was persuaded by the party's top leadership that this could backfire. them if such an event was announced without proper planning and without taking into account all the pros and cons.
