Trump invites China's Xi Jinping to his inauguration (report)
President-elect Donald Trump has reportedly invited Chinese leader Xi Jinping to attend his inauguration next month.
Inauguration officials are planning for the possibility that Xi and other foreign leaders will come to Trump's swearing-in, CBS News reported. It is unclear whether Xi accepted the invitation.
If the Chinese president comes to Trump's inauguration, it would be the first time a foreign leader has attended such an event since at least 1874.
The Trump transition team neither confirmed nor denied the report, but added that “world leaders are lining up” to meet with Trump.

Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban, who visited Trump at his Mar-a-Lago estate this week, said he was “still thinking” about whether to attend the ceremony.
Xi's participation in such an event would be an important step for U.S.-China relations, although Trump's motives for inviting him remain unclear. The two countries have a contentious relationship, highlighted by Congress's decision to ban TikTok over concerns that its Chinese parent company was using U.S. user data.
Trump himself has threatened to increase tariffs on China, pledging to impose tariffs of at least 10%.
