JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com – President Prabowo Subianto apologized to 7th President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) during the inauguration Friendship Tunnel which connects the mosque Independence with the Church Cathedral in Jakarta.
The reason is that it was Prabowo who inaugurated the tunnel, even though the Silaturahim Tunnel was built during Jokowi's era.
“Thank you to all the personalities who managed to realize this symbol which is true and which should indeed be inaugurated by Pak Joko Widodo,” said Prabowo during the inauguration of the Istiqlal-Silaturahim Cathedral tunnel, Thursday (12/12/2024 ).

“Yes, I was just able to enjoy it. A lot of people work. Yes, it’s called destiny,” he continued, greeted by laughter from the audience.
He then joked that Jokowi might be watching the inauguration of the Istiqlal-Cathedral tunnel on the screen.
Prabowo also apologized to Jokowi if he watched the inauguration.
“Could it be that Mr. Joko Widodo is watching this. Mr. Jokowi, I’m sorry, I’m the one who made this official,” Prabowo said.

Previously, it was reported, according to a press release from the Ministry of Religion (Kemenag), that this tunnel aims to facilitate access for people wishing to carry out religious tourism in these two historic buildings.
The plan is that this tunnel will function not only as a thoroughfare between two places of worship, but also as a limited gallery.
