Inaugurating the friendship tunnel, Prabowo apologizes to Jokowi
Jakarta, Beritasatu.com President Prabowo Subianto apologized to his predecessor the 7th President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) for inaugurating the Friendship Tunnel connecting the Istiqlal Mosque and the Cathedral Church, Thursday (12/12/2024). The tunnel was built when Jokowi was president.
President Prabowo also appreciated the contribution of President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) in realizing this project. He also expressed his thanks for this. “Thank you to all parties who worked hard to create this symbol of harmony and to Mr. Jokowi, if you are watching, I'm sorry, I will make it official,” he said with a smile.
This tunnel is a true symbol of inter-religious harmony in Indonesia, while reflecting the spirit of unity in diversity. Prabowo expressed his gratitude and pride for the success of the Friendship Tunnel project carried out under the Jokowi government.
Prabowo pointed out that Indonesia is one of the most diverse countries in the world, consisting of 714 ethnic groups and various ethnic groups living on thousands of islands. According to him, differences should not become a barrier of division, in reference to the inauguration of the friendship tunnel.
“Differences are our wealth, a source of strength and energy for the Indonesian nation. We learn tolerance, empathy and living in harmony from the founding fathers of the nation,” Prabowo explained about the inauguration of the friendship tunnel.
The President also recalled the Istiqlal mosque, designed by a non-Muslim architect, Friedrich Silaban. This architect was appointed directly by President Soekarno.
This is, according to him, proof of the greatness of the Indonesian people capable of defending the values of interfaith fraternity. Prabowo also advised maintaining peace and harmony. He admitted that there was nothing more important than harmony and peace.
“Only with peace can we achieve prosperity and become a prosperous and just country,” Prabowo concluded.
For information, the construction of the Friendship Tunnel began in December 2020 and was completed in September 2021, with a total construction cost of IDR 39 billion, during the Jokowi era. The 34-meter-long Friendship Tunnel inaugurated by Prabowo has an area of 218 square meters with a depth of 6 meters, equipped with a shelter covering an area of 128 square meters.
