Sita equal to Ram JD (U), RJD wants Modi government now to develop Janaki Janmabhoomi Sitamarhi
Text size:
New Delhi: With Prime Minister Narendra Modi laying the foundation stone for the Ram temple in Ayodhya, Bihar parties, transcending political lines, now want the Center to develop Sitamarhi, supposedly the birthplace of Sita, under the name Janaki Janmabhoomi.
The leader is the ruling JD (U), a BJP ally who wrote to PM Modi, urging him to start working on this. The party is also preparing to raise the issue during the monsoon session of parliament.
If Sita’s birthplace in Sitamarhi is developed as Ayodhya, it can contribute a lot to India’s economic prosperity and tourism industry, Sunil Kumar Pintu, JD (U) MP for Sitamarhi told ThePrint.
We also wrote a letter to the PM on this matter. All organizations have also looked for time to meet Prime Minister Modi in this context during the next parliamentary session, added Pintu.
Not to be outdone, with the approach of the elections to the Assembly, the opposition Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) joined the chorus.
Sri Ram cannot be imagined without Mata Sita, Manoj Kumar Jha, RJD MP Rajya Sabha, told ThePrint.
Before the 1980s, slogans such as Jai Siya Ram and Sita Ram were prevalent throughout northern India. From Jai Siya Ram to Jai Shri Ram, somewhere that Sitaji lost on this trip, he added. This is why our party said that a temple dedicated to Sitaji should be built in Sitamarhi and that it should be as big as the Ram temple in Ayodhya. I will certainly raise this issue in Parliament.

“ The stature of Sitas should be equal to that of the rams ”
JD (U) Pintu insists the demand is just an effort to ensure equal status for Sita.
The prime minister also assured us that in addition to the Janaki temple, the whole neighborhood will also be developed, he said. Work is also going on here for the construction of the temple and for the development of Sitamarhi, but no one is happy with it. Now that the Prime Minister has changed Jai Shri Ram to Jai Siya Ram, we have decided to meet him and convince him that now is the right time to give Sita equal status with Ram. Sitamarhi should be developed as Ayodhya.
The JD (U) MP added that the choir had nothing to do with the upcoming Assembly elections. Everyone has started to compare Ayodhya with Sitamarhi, which seems very backward in comparison, Pintu said. We all want the job done on a large scale here. Now that a large Ram temple is under construction in Ayodhya, the demand for a dedicated Sitaji temple in Sitamarhi has also increased. Elections will continue to happen from time to time and they have nothing to do with it.
BJP MP for Bettiah in West Champaran, Sanjay Jaiswal, however, said the development of Sitamarhi was the responsibility of the townspeople, not the Modi government.
Many large programs have been organized by the BJP government, but the Ram Temple is being built by a trust, he told ThePrint. If the people of Sitamarhi want a Sita temple, then they can all come together and do it. Central government is not required for this. We can all develop this with representatives of the public.
However, not everyone is on board. Akhilesh Prasad Singh, Congressman Rajya Sabha from Bihar, said the state government should first focus on containing the Covid-19 pandemic and the state’s economic situation as a result of ‘widespread flooding.
Right now, the coronavirus is a bigger problem than the temple. Saving people from the pandemic is more important, he said. The need today is to build hospitals and strengthen the health infrastructure. Temples and mosques will continue to be built.
The government of Bihar announced plans for Sitamarhi, including a Rs 48 crore tourist package by Chief Minister Nitish Kumar in 2018, but none of them actually took off.
Principal Secretary (Tourism) Sanjay Kumar told ThePrint that efforts are underway to develop a Ramayana tour in Bihar, which will include Darbhanga, Ram Rekha Ghat in Buxar and Sitamarhi. A report on this was sent to the Modi government but the Covid-19 pandemic hampered efforts, he said.
