Donald Trump attended the Army-Navy football game Saturday alongside a group of allies, cabinet picks and controversial figures.

The president-elect was joined by JD Vance, Elon Musk, House Speaker Mike Johnson, Trump's Secretary of Defense nominee Pete Hegseth, and Daniel Penny, who was recently acquitted of manslaughter after strangling a homeless man on a New York subway for almost six minutes. Penny has since become a cause celebre on the right.

Their appearance at the game came as ABC agreed to a $15 million settlement stemming from Trump's defamation lawsuit involving a show about E. Jean Carroll, who herself had successfully sued the president-elect for defamatory statements.

Trump also named several other picks for his administration on Saturday, including Truth Social CEO Devin Nunes to lead an intelligence council and stalwart foreign policy adviser Richard Grenell as presidential envoy for special missions .

Meanwhile, East Coast officials are expressing frustration over mysterious drone sightings in the airspace over New Jersey and neighboring states, which have fueled conspiracy theories and residents' concerns.

Devin Nunes and Ric Grenell, who are the Trump administration's latest picks?

Donald Trump announced Saturday that Truth Social CEO Devin Nunes and President-elect Director of National Intelligence Ric Grenell have been tapped to serve in his next administration.

Nunes, as a former California House representative, was named chairman of Trump's intelligence advisory board, while Grenell was tapped to serve as presidential envoy for special missions.

While Nunes was in office, he served on the House Intelligence Committee and consistently supported every action taken by then-President Trump. He also led the two-year investigation into the U.S. response to the 2012 Benghazi attack, which ultimately found no evidence of wrongdoing by the U.S. State Department under Hillary Clinton.

Nunes also refused to support an investigation into Michael Flynn, Trump's former national security adviser and Q-Anon conspiracy theorist, after it was revealed he had unreported discussions with Russian officials then that he served under Trump.

From everything I can see, his conversations with the Russian ambassador did that country a favor and he should be thanked for that, Nunes said at the time.

Grenell previously served as Trump's ambassador to Germany and director of national intelligence.

Prior to his involvement in the Trump administration, Grenell was a consultant to an Eastern European oligarch, Vladimir Plahotniuc. He was criticized after writing articles defending the oligarch without clarifying that he was being paid to manage the man's image.

Grenell is a former Fox News contributor and was named vice president of the far-right news outlet Newsmax in 2021. He drew media ire in 2020 when, during a Trump press conference, he refused to identify themselves with journalists and publicly. accused the state of covering up incidents of voter fraud in order to help the electoral prospects of his then-Democratic challenger, Joe Biden.

These claims were made without evidence and Mr. Grenell refused to answer journalists' questions asking him to prove his claims.

Chicago mayor vows to protect residents after Trump's border czar singles Windy City for mass evictions

Donald Trump's new border czar suggested the president-elect's plans for mass deportations would begin in Chicago, part of a plan that would deploy law enforcement agents to communities across the country for large-scale operations targeting people living in the country without legal authorization.

The Windy City mayor vows to protect his city's residents from Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents who might enter schools and workplaces, opposing so-called sanctuary policies barring forces federal authorities to use local police to enforce evictions.

What the Trump administration has demanded is that local police departments across the country behave like ICE agents. In sanctuary cities, this is not allowed, Democratic Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson told CNN.

Why the Right Loves Daniel Penny

Daniel Penny was the guest of Donald Trump and company Saturday at the Army-Navy football game in Maryland.

The invitation, at first glance, seems strange: Penny was facing a homicide charge in a New York court last week, for which he was ultimately acquitted.

Last year we saw how Penny became a right-wing celebrity for choking a homeless man on the subway, in what the 26-year-old described as an act to defend his fellow passengers.

ICYMI: Trump set to ditch car crash regulations Musk hates

According to Reuters, which viewed a document proposing the change, removing the requirement could hamper the government's ability to effectively investigate accidents and regulate the safety of vehicles equipped with self-driving systems, like Tesla's Teslas and Cybertrucks. Musk.

Musk, who is the richest man in the world, used his vast wealth to invest a quarter of a billion dollars in the Trump 2024 campaign. If Trump's team removes accident reporting requirements, it would likely directly benefit to Musk's Tesla, which reported the majority of accidents, more than 1,500, to federal safety regulators under the program.

The Tesla crashes triggered three major investigations by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, according to federal data. According to agency data, Teslas were responsible for 40 of the 45 fatal crashes reported to the agency through October 15.

Graig Graziosi has the details.
