Gandapur says PTI will implement Imran's orders on civil disobedience protest 'once everything is clear' – Pakistan
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur on Sunday said the PTI would continue implementing civil disobedience based on the orders of incarcerated party founder Imran Khan in the same spirit, but he would not There is so far no clarity on this.
Imran, in a post on his X account on December 5, lamented that party supporters were killed due to state terrorism during his latest call for nationwide protests on November 24, demanding restoration of the PTI's electoral mandate, the release of the detainees. party members and the overturning of the 26th Amendment.
After clashes between security forces and PTI protesters in Islamabad, the party leadership hastily withdrew from the red zone on November 27.
The protests, which lasted three days, cost the lives of six people, including a police officer and three Rangers hit by a vehicle traveling at high speed, according to authorities.
Imran announced the creation of a five-member team to negotiate with the government the release of political prisoners and the opening of a judicial investigation into the events of May 9 and November 26, warning against a movement of civil disobedience from December 14 if the demands were not met. He also criticized the PTI leadership for acting as if everything was fine on Thursday and reiterated his call for civil disobedience if the demands were not met by December 15.
Speaking to the media today in Peshawar, KP CM Gandapur said that the PTI founder made the announcement and whatever Khan's order is, we have to implement it in the same spirit, but [] there is no clarity so far.
He said the party was waiting for clear instructions on what needed to be done to launch the movement.
Once it is clear, God willing, we will do it, the KP CM said.
Never a peaceful demonstration
Responding to the KP CM's remarks in Abbottabad a day ago, where he reiterated that the party would not go ahead with a peaceful protest, Information Minister Attaullah Tarar questioned whether the PTI had ever made a peaceful appeal at the demonstration.
You have never made a peaceful appeal, the information minister said, adding that if the appeal had been peaceful, the party would not have charged the capital with weapons.
Tarar said the government was ready for the party's next call, but downplayed its materialization.
However, I don't think you have the strength to make a new appeal or implement it, the Information Minister said.
No environment for meaningful negotiations
Speaking to Geo News, Defense Minister Khawaja Asif maintained that the PTI did not have a unified stance on negotiations with the government, adding that the party had failed to create a conducive environment for negotiations.
The minister denied that the government had issued statements confirming negotiations with the PTI.
All statements on the negotiations all come from the PTI, Asif said. There has been no statement from the government regarding the negotiations, nor any confirmation.
He added that the PTI was exchanging statements among themselves and none of them showed a definitive position of the party.
The PTI founder is making statements from prison, Bushra Bibi is making statements from KP, and parliamentarians like Omar Ayub and (lawyer) Gohar are all making different statements that don't add up, Asif said.
Some say they will continue civil disobedience, while others impose different conditions.
I do not believe that the environment created by the PTI is conducive to meaningful negotiations.
