Simplify compliances to avoid harassment of citizens, says PM Modi | News from India
Stressing the importance of focusing on reform, efficiency and transformation, Prime Minister Narendra Modi asked states to simplify rules that often lead to harassment of citizens, according to a statement from the Prime Minister's Office.
Addressing the 4th National Conference of Chief Secretaries in Delhi on Sunday, Modi said the biggest advantage of this conference was that the Indian team came together to discuss with an open mind and worked together for a Viksit Bharat, he said.
The Prime Minister observed that proactive and pro-people good governance (P2G2) is at the heart of our work through which we can realize the vision of Viksit Bharat, the PMO said in a statement.
The conference, held from December 13 to 15, saw discussions around the theme of promoting entrepreneurship, employment and skills by leveraging the demographic dividend, the statement said. The conference focused on particular themes, including manufacturing, services, non-agricultural rural areas, urban areas, renewable energy and circular economy, he said.
The statement said the Prime Minister appreciated the advent of start-ups, especially in Tier 2 and Tier 3 cities, and asked states to encourage innovations and work towards creating an environment where start-ups ups can thrive. He also urged states to identify suitable locations for entrepreneurs in small towns and take initiatives to connect them to the banking system, provide them with logistics and facilitate them, the statement said.
The Prime Minister also asked states to simplify formalities that often lead to harassment of citizens. He urged the participants that states should reform the governance model in a way that encourages citizen participation or Jan Bhagidari, the statement said.
The Prime Minister also asked states to explore the concepts of Viability Gap Funding for recycling of e-waste, he said, adding that this was particularly important because with increasing data and a data-driven society technology, digital waste will increase. Converting e-waste into a useful resource will reduce our reliance on importing these materials, he said.
