Plea against 'killings' during PTI protest to be heard on…

A court will on December 23 hear a petition regarding the alleged killing and disappearance of Pakistan Tehrik-e-Insaf (PTI) workers during its protest in the federal capital on November 26.

District and Sessions Judge Mohammad Azam Khan scheduled the hearing to respond to the petition filed by PTI Chairman Gohar Ali Khan's lawyer.

Apart from his legal decision, the PTI chairman told reporters that he favored comprehensive and unconditional negotiations at every stage.

His petition accuses Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif, Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi, Information Minister Attaullah Tarar, Defense Minister Khawaja Asif, senior police officials and some unidentified people of being involved in the murder and disappearance of PTI workers.

The petition claimed that 12 PTI workers were killed and 38 others injured due to the gunfire. At least 139 people were reported missing. These allegations have raised serious concerns about the authorities' handling of the protest, the petition adds.

The applicants' legal team appeared in court at the first hearing. Justice Azam Khan ordered the PTI chief to be present at the next hearing to provide further clarification. The court will hear preliminary arguments on the next date.

The PTI president insisted on the need to continue “comprehensive and unconditional negotiations between the PTI and the federal government despite the party’s hesitations.

PTI leaders had recently agreed to negotiate with the federal government if the offer was serious, but party founder Imran Khan slammed the leadership for acting as if everything was fine and reiterated his call for civil disobedience if the government continued to ignore its demands. .

Lawyer Gohar Ali Khan said it was essential for democracy to find political solutions to political problems. “We will proceed in accordance with the law.

Asked if the party's demands were conditions for the negotiations, he clarified: “We have not set any conditions, these are our demands. We will negotiate on these demands. We have had contact with the government , but we were disconnected at a critical stage.” We hope that we will reestablish contact and improve the situation. When there are negotiations, all problems will be resolved. Let's stop everything and move towards improvement.

Former PTI leaders have significantly toned down their enthusiasm for initiating talks with the federal government to resolve various issues, including the release of their leader Imran Khan from prison.

They changed their previous stance after Imran Khan expressed resentment over their exuberance to start dialogue with the government. Their boss wanted them to be extremely aggressive towards the government.

Former National Assembly Speaker Asad Qaiser said the party was yet to start dialogue with the government and talks could only take place after three demands were accepted, including the release of Imran Khan and other party activists and the constitution of a judicial commission comprising senior officials. Supreme Court judges will investigate the violent incidents of May 9 and November 26.

Qaisar refuted reports that the PTI had initiated talks with the government after his meeting with President Ayaz Sadiq, who belongs to the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N).

“I would like to make a clarification. Since yesterday, the media have reported that the government-PTI dialogue is underway and my meeting with the president is being mentioned in this context, he declared to the National Assembly, specifying that he had gone there only to offer his condolences to the speaker for the death of his sister and not to engage in dialogue.

Qaiser said they had formed a dialogue committee, but the committee would proceed under the leadership of Imran Khan only when the government showed seriousness.

Leader of Opposition in the National Assembly Omar Ayub Khan said Imran Khan had expanded the dialogue committee by adding two more members and threatened that the party would issue a call for civil disobedience if his demands were not met. were not satisfied.

PTI Senator Aon Abbas Bappi regretted comments from the Treasury benches that ground realities had forced the PTI to agree to talks. He said the PTI's willingness to engage in dialogue should not be misinterpreted as weakness.
