A former Ukrainian government minister has humiliated Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer after insisting “Boris [Johnson] It was much better.”
Dmytro Kuleba, a key figure in Ukraine's defense against Russia's full-scale invasion, believes Starmer has abandoned British leadership in Ukraine since coming to power, according to Time.
He said his only unpleasant conversation with British officials took place shortly before his resignation in September, as kyiv grew increasingly frustrated with the Starmer government over military aid.
The frustration stemmed from the British government's apparent hesitation over the provision of additional long-range missiles.
Starmer has not visited Ukraine since taking office in July, which kyiv sees as a symbol of greater indecision over military support.
In comparison, Boris Johnson was the first Western leader to address Ukraine's parliament after the invasion, and in 2023 he received a hero's welcome upon his return to the country.
While there, he pledged to do “whatever I can” to help the nation defeat Russia.
At the time, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky posted a message on Telegram that said: Many days of this war have proven that Britain's support for Ukraine is firm and resolute.

And just weeks after becoming Prime Minister, Rishi Sunak traveled to Ukraine to meet President Zelensky and “confirm the UK’s continued support”.

After intense lobbying from kyiv, outgoing US President Joe Biden shook Moscow by giving President Zelensky the green light to use US-made long-range missiles in Russia.
The move was seen as an effort by Biden and his allies to strengthen Ukraine's position ahead of likely peace talks next year.
This has intensified calls for Starmer to allow Ukrainian forces to use British-made missiles to strike targets deep inside Russia.
And last month, Ukraine used UK-supplied Storm Shadow missiles for the first time to strike targets in Russia. However, Starmer has not officially confirmed that the UK is supplying the long-range weapons manufactured in this country by MBDA.
Kuleba said the delay in supplying vital weapons to the UK made it look like Labor was “simply following the Americans”, while the Conservatives were “not going to stop” from simply complying with their allies.
He said: “The Conservatives were coordinating with the Americans, but they were not just following the Americans.
This is the change brought about by the Labor Party. They decided to follow the Americans.
