PDI-P fires Jokowi, his family members and executives for violating party line | INITIATED
The Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P) has issued decrees formalizing the dismissal of popular figures Joko Jokowi Widodo, Gibran Rakabuming Raka and Bobby Nasution, as well as 24 other senior party members after months of verbal noise in public.
The decrees on the dismissal of former President Jokowi, his vice-president son Gibran and North Sumatra governor-elect Bobby were read out by PDI-P Honorary Council Chairman Komarudin Watubun before the leaders of the party branch nationwide on Monday, December 16, 2024. Other PDI-P leaders were not present at the event, including General Secretary Hasto Kristiyanto and Vice President Puan Maharani.
Monday's event only formalized the announcement made by Hasto during a press conference at the PDI-P party school in Jakarta on December 4, 2024. The decision, according to Hasto, was the result of an evaluation of the discipline and loyalty of party cadres since the Presidential election of February 14, 2024 until the simultaneous regional elections of November 27, 2024.
Hasto said the decision to fire them was based on alleged disciplinary violations. Several cadres were accused of supporting pairs of candidates other than those nominated by the PDI-P, including political attitudes deemed incompatible with the party's values. The announcement of all 27 dismissed executives will be made on December 17, 2024.
