Queen Elizabeth II was known for her biting sense of humor and her sometimes blunt way of using words. And judging by a resurfaced BBC video clip, the monarch wasn't afraid to stand up for what she wore, either.
In the 2007 music video, photographer Annie Leibovitz is tasked with photographing the late Queen at Buckingham Palace. The former monarch can be seen wearing her Order of the Garter robes and a crown, which Leibovitz said might be too formal. “I think it will be better without the crown,” the famous photographer told the Queen (via Express). “Could we try without the crown? It'll be better… less dressed up.”
Unfortunately for Leibovitz, Elizabeth doesn't agree with the suggestion to tone down her outfit. “Less dressed?” she asks. “What do you think it is?”
The queen then announces: “I'm not changing anything. I've dressed like this enough. Thank you very much.”
The BBC eventually had to apologize for misleading viewers in the way it advertised the programme. “The BBC and RDF Television, producers of the BBC1 series A year with the queenwould like to clarify that the clips shown in a promotional trailer on July 11 were not intended to provide a complete picture of what actually happened or what will be shown in the final program,” the apology explains ( via the Express). “This was an important photoshoot ahead of the Queen's visit to the United States. While the clips of the Queen supposedly exiting the photo shoot were taken out of context, it certainly seems like it may not have been wise to tell the late monarch what to wear.
