Boris Johnson launches rallying cry to defend Brexit freedoms in the face of Starmers' European plans

Boris Johnson has launched a scathing attack on Keir Starmers' Labor government, accusing the prime minister of betrayal in his plan to bring Britain back into the orbit of the European Union.

In a passionate atmosphere Daily Mail columnthe former Prime Minister called on all those who value the democracy and economic independence guaranteed by Brexit to fight, fight and fight again to protect the freedoms voted for in the 2016 referendum.

Johnson blasted Starmer's alleged duplicity, pointing to Labor leaders' pre-election pledges to respect Brexit, maintain national independence and reject a return to the single market or the free movement of people. Millions of people went to the polls believing Brexit was safe under Labour, he writes. It is clear that Starmer took them for fools.

Secret negotiations to reverse Brexit gains

The former Conservative leader revealed Starmer had set up a massive negotiating team within the Cabinet Office, tasked with starting negotiations with the EU early next year. Johnson says the agenda is nothing less than a capitulation to Brussels, with proposals that threaten to erode the sovereignty and economic independence guaranteed by Brexit.

Among the EU's demands, Johnson highlighted three key threats:

  1. Fishing rights: The EU is reportedly seeking perpetual access to British waters just as Britain prepares to regain full control of its fisheries in 2026. Johnson called it a blatant attempt to undo a fundamental Brexit victory , undermining the power and authority that Britain had regained.
  2. Free movement of people: Johnson has warned of a proposed youth mobility scheme that would effectively restore free movement, granting millions of EU nationals unrestricted access to live and work in the UK. Is this a way to deal with mass immigration? Are you opening the doors again? This is madness, he writes.
  3. Dynamic alignment with EU rules: Perhaps the most serious threat, according to Johnson, lies in the EU's pressure for Britain to adopt its agricultural and trade rules, thereby re-entering the single market by stealth. Such an alignment, he warned, would jeopardize Britain's ability to strike meaningful free trade deals and cede judicial authority to the European Court.

A return to the failures of the EU

Boris also questioned the timing of Starmer's plans, highlighting the EU's economic stagnation and growing discontent across the continent. With France and Germany recording negative growth and far-right parties gaining ground, Boris argued that Britain should look to the United States as a model for innovation and enterprise, and not towards Brussels.

At a time when Starmer and Rachel Reeves have already managed to kill economic growth with their disastrous tax-raising budget, this EU renegotiation is taking Britain in the completely wrong direction, Johnson wrote.

Labor took power by deception

The former Prime Minister did not hesitate to condemn Labor governance. Accusing Starmer of lacking a mandate for his EU negotiations or recent tax rises, Johnson said Labour's rise to power was based on outright lies and a deliberate campaign of deception.

A call to action

Concluding his column, Boris issued a rallying cry for everyone who values democracy and Britain's economic future to strongly oppose Labour's plans. We must respect the law and the constitution, he wrote. But I call on all those who care about democracy and the economic salvation of this country to fight, fight and fight again for the freedoms for which the people voted in 2016 and which they believed were guaranteed.

Johnson's comments are sure to galvanize Brexit supporters as fears grow that Labor negotiations could undo key achievements of Britain's withdrawal from the EU. It seems the battle for Brexit's legacy is far from over.
