Imran Khan, not the establishment, main obstacle to dialogue with the government: Rana Sanaullah
ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister's Advisor on Political Affairs Rana Sanaullah has said that it is not the establishment but Imran Khan who is the main obstacle in initiating a meaningful dialogue between Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and the government.
Speaking to The News, Sanaullah, the senior leader of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), said that not only had the establishment already made public its policy on dialogue between political parties, but that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif had also offered talks to the PTI in a recent speech in the National Assembly.
The Prime Minister's offer, however, was immediately rejected with contempt by the NA opposition leader, Omar Ayub Khan, during the same session of the lower house.
The Prime Minister's advisor said Imran was neither in favor of political dialogue in the past nor interested now. Rather, the PTI founder is the major obstacle to initiating meaningful negotiations, which Sanaullah believes is important and should be pursued.
The second-tier leadership of the PTI, he said, was in favor of dialogue with the government, but despite their insistence on such talks, Imran rejected them all and led to the events of November 26.
“He [November 26 episode] “Not only was this a serious shock to the possible initiation of a dialogue process, but it also made it clear that Imran Khan does not value the views of all of his second-level leaders ” Sanaullah said, adding that the government is in touch with the PTI. the second level leadership, but they are powerless and cannot initiate anything because the founding president of the party vetoes them all.
Some political observers believe that to have a meaningful dialogue with the government, the PTI must revisit its policy of direct confrontation with the military and its senior leaders, past and present, over the past two years.
Sanaullah, however, said the army had made its dialogue policy clear on May 8 this year.
The advisor was referring to the statement of the ISPR Director General, who in response to a question said: “All political parties are respectable to us. However, if a political group attacks its own army, no one will interact with it. The only way for such an anarchist group is to apologize to the nation, promise to avoid politics of hatred and pursue constructive politics, he said, emphasizing: “In any case, such dialogue should take place between political parties. It is not appropriate for the military to be involved.
While the PTI's second-level leadership advocates a dialogue process, PTI social media and its supporters abroad have continued to carry out anti-army campaigns, even in connection with the November 26 episode.
In response to this latest propaganda against the army and its supreme command, the recent meeting of formation commanders noted with concern “malicious propaganda carried out following the legal deployment of the army in the capital to secure key government buildings and ensure safe and secure access.” secure environment for valuable visiting delegations.”
He added: “This pre-planned, coordinated and premeditated propaganda reflects the continuation of a sinister design of certain political elements as an attempt to drive a wedge between the public and the armed forces and institutions of Pakistan. This vain attempt, fueled and encouraged by external actors, will never succeed.
The forum stressed that it is imperative for the government to enact and implement stringent laws and regulations to check the unhindered and unethical use of freedom of expression to spew venom and lies and sowing the seeds of polarization.
Those spreading fake news in the name of political/financial interests must be identified and brought to justice.
