Imran Khan threatens to stop remittances if demands remain unmet
PTI founder Imran Khan calls for judicial probe and release of arrested workers; cites the economic difficulties faced by Pakistanis.
Rawalpindi [Pakistan]December 18: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan has issued a warning, threatening to call for a halt to remittances to Pakistan if his demands are not met. His sister, Aleema Khan, conveyed her message to the media on Wednesday outside Adiala jail, ARY News reported.
Imran Khan's main demands include the formation of a three-judge Supreme Court judicial commission to probe the incidents of May 9 and November 26, and the release of innocent PTI workers currently in detention.
Aleema Khan quoted the PTI leader as saying, “If these two demands are not met, I will soon call for a halt to remittances to Pakistan. » She further highlighted the economic hardships faced by ordinary Pakistanis, saying millions have fallen below the poverty line since the overthrow of Khan's government.
Overseas Pakistanis and economic difficulties
Overseas Pakistanis, who work tirelessly abroad to send money home, are frustrated by the current economic crisis, Aleema Khan said. She claimed Pakistan's elite were siphoning dollars out of the country while the working poor helped prop up the economy.
Aleema also reiterated Imran Khan's stance regarding a 'London Plan', which he said aims to systematically suppress the PTI. She said the plan included stripping the party of its electoral symbol as part of a progressive strategy.
Requests for judicial investigation
Imran Khan had earlier called for a judicial inquiry into the violent events of May 9 and November 26. Speaking on Khan's behalf, Aleema pointed out that substantial evidence, including video footage and hospital records, had surfaced and could not be ignored.
“Institutions and hospitals provide undeniable evidence,” she said, stressing that the truth about these events must be revealed.
Aleema further announced that PTI leaders had named the D-Chowk area 'Shuhada Chowk', as a tribute to those affected by the political unrest.
