Erdogan announces Trkiye plans for superconducting chip facility
President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on Wednesday unveiled Trkiyes' plan to establish a superconductor chip production plant, signaling a bold step in the global quantum computing arena. The announcement, made during the scientific awards ceremony of the Turkish Academy of Sciences (TUBA) and the Trkiye Scientific and Technological Research Council (TUBITAK) in Ankara, highlights the nation's aspirations to become a leader in cutting-edge technology.

The facility is expected to play a central role in developing processors for next-generation quantum computers, a move the president called critical to tackling complex computing challenges.
Trkiyes' goal is to join the ranks of 15 nations at the forefront of quantum computing, Erdogan said. Our upcoming superconductor chip production facility will pave the way for the development of higher-capacity quantum computers.
The president noted that quantum computers could solve complex problems in minutes, problems that conventional supercomputers could take years to deal with. He touted the initiative as a transformative leap in the country’s technological journey.
Erdogan also highlighted Trkiyes' commitment to fostering scientific innovation, celebrating the achievements of 57 honored scientists at the awards ceremony. He called for collaboration between academic institutions, researchers and private businesses to propel national progress.
