Jokowi fired from PDIP, Projo says he is ready to change political party – Online alert

JAKARTA, Waspada.co.id – DPP Secretary General Projo Handoko said that his party is ready to transform into a political party if the 7th President of the Republic of Indonesia, Joko Widodo or Jokowi, orders it. This was conveyed by Handoko after Jokowi and his family were fired by the PDI Perjuangan (PDI-P).

Handoko said that Projo's door is always open to Jokowi or anyone who supports the political moves of the 7th President of the Republic of Indonesia.

“If Pak Jokowi orders it, then prepare (to become a party),” Handoko said on Wednesday (18/12).

Nonetheless, Handoko admitted that there had been no communication with Jokowi regarding the possibility of Projo becoming a party. Handoko was reluctant to speculate further and was awaiting direction from Jokowi regarding the direction of the organization he leads.

“Not yet (there have been no discussions with Jokowi), we will definitely discuss it at the right time,” Handoko said, as quoted by Antara.

As previously reported by Kompas.tv, the PDI-P announced Jokowi's dismissal at the party's press conference on Monday (16/12). In addition to Jokowi, the party with the white-nosed bull symbol also dismissed his son and son-in-law, Gibran Rakabuming Raka and Bobby Nasution.

Jokowi's dismissal from the PDI-P is contained in Decree No. 1649/KPTS/DPP/XII/2024 which was issued on December 14, 2024 and signed by PDIP General Chair Megawati Soekarnoputri and General Secretary Hasto Kristiyanto .

“Having abused his power of intervention before the Constitutional Court, which was the beginning of the destruction of the democratic system, the legal system and the moral and ethical system of national and state life, constitutes a violation of ethics and party discipline, described as a serious violation,” reads an excerpt from Jokowi’s dismissal letter.

Jokowi himself admitted that he respected the PDI-P's decision to fire him. The former Jakarta governor admitted that he did not want to defend himself regarding his dismissal.
