Former President Alvi predicts Imran Khan will be released soon

He said the leaders had harmed democracy to keep away PTI founder Imran Khan.

PESHAWAR (Dunya News) – Former President and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Dr. Arif Alvi on Tuesday predicted that “change is imminent and Imran Khan will be released soon; the planets moved.

Addressing the media outside the Peshawar High Court alongside Opposition Leader in the National Assembly Omar Ayub, he described the Treasury parliamentarians as corrupt.

He said they had undermined democracy to keep away PTI founder Imran Khan. “He (Imran) represents 90 percent of the public,” the former president added.

He said that they (government) had banned people from calling Imran Khan's name. They threatened the masses that their [constitutional] rights would be taken away if anyone mentioned Imran's name even during cricket matches. They traveled back in time to 2018.

“We will have to start all over again. We are worried about the country. I must free the country from these usurpers and mafias,” he continued.

Former President Alvi said the world would condemn the trial of civilians in military courts. “The world condemns it, but no one cares. The mafia profits [privileges] while the poor have nothing to eat.

He refuted the government's claim that foreign investors were ready to come and invest $70 billion in Pakistan. “No money comes from any part of the world, not a single cent.”

The PTI leader said that the existing leaders have destroyed the judiciary and the constitution. By introducing the 26th amendment [to the constitution]they ruined everything. This amendment is a waste of time, he added.

They run their business at 99 percent public expense. Smuggling continues, he said and asked the media if smuggling had stopped in Balochistan.

The former president said dialogues take place with those in power and not with the government. Mediation does not take place where there are occupants. The usurpers use mediation as an excuse.

Dr Alvi said the popularity of the PTI founder has not diminished. “The heartbeat of the public is linked to that of the PTI founder. There is still time to take a step back. He said he would advise the PTI founder not to accept the offer of house arrest.

Investigations into missing persons are the responsibility of the government, he said.

He demanded the trial of all current and former politicians. “Justice demands that if one person is tried by a military court, all others must be judged in the same way,” he continued.

Omar Ayub spoke about the negotiations between the government and the PTI and said that the party had presented its demands. “Political prisoners face trumped-up charges and we demand their release. A judicial commission should be formed to investigate the events of May 9 and November 26.”

He said the investigations [of rigging] elections and new elections are also part of our demands. “We are forced to negotiate with a government that came to power thanks to Form 47.”
