The 7th President of the Republic of Indonesia, Joko Widodo (Jokowi) responded to the question of naming PDI Perjuangan Secretary General Hasto Kristiyanto as a suspect in the Harun Masiku corruption case linked to him. Previously, Chairman of the PDI Perjuangan (PDIP) DPP for National Legal System Reform Ronny Talapessy linked Hasto Kristiyanto's suspect status to the PDI Perjuangan's decision to fire Jokowi and his family. He believes the trial involving Hasto has political undertones.
“Especially because DPP PDI Secretary General Perjuangan firmly affirmed the party's political stance against efforts to undermine democracy, the constitution, as well as against girls, abuse of power or abuse of power at the end of the reign of former President Joko Widodo (Jokowi),” Ronny said.

KPK Chairman Setyo Budiyanto said Hasto and Donny, along with Harun Masiku and a number of other parties, gave gifts or promises to then Indonesian KPU Chairman Wahyu Setiawan. Hasto is reportedly actively trying to win the Harun seat as a member of the DPR in the 2019 elections.
In addition to being linked to the corruption case, Hasto was also declared a suspect for obstructing the investigation into the Harun Masiku corruption case. Hasto allegedly asked Harun Masiku to destroy and throw away his cell phone and ordered Harun Masiku to run away.
Former KPK investigator Praswad Nugraha supports the KPK's efforts to thoroughly investigate the Harun Masiku corruption case.
