PTI leader Omar Ayub eyes imprisonment of Imran Khan as Pakistan PM in 2025 – Pakistan

Jailed Tehreek-e-Insaf founder Imran Khan could become Pakistan's future prime minister in 2025, Opposition Leader in the National Assembly Omar Ayub said on Tuesday.

Ayub was present at the program via video link where he spoke about the meeting of the party's negotiation committee with the government committee in Islamabad and future plans.

But the opposition leader could not attend the meeting due to his appearance before the Peshawar High Court for different cases.

On the show, he dismissed the impression that the presence of PTI leaders in the meeting was just for the sake of putting on a show. Like his party leaders, Ayub reiterated that the party leadership was busy and National Assembly Speaker Ayaz Sadiq had been briefed about the commitments in advance.

He reiterated that the party wants the release of political prisoners, a judicial commission on May 9 and November 26, an investigation into the electoral process on February 8 and free and fair elections. Our members have told them verbally that we do not accept your government.

When asked, the opposition leader said the PTI would see if the government was serious in its intentions. He demanded that party leaders have unsupervised and unhindered access to Khan in prison.

He called Defense Minister Khawaja Asif a coward after the latter, during a press conference in London, accused the PTI founder of orchestrating the May 9 events.

According to him, the decision of the military courts regarding the May 9 suspects was an impulsive reaction and it backfired following the reaction of the European Union, the United States and the United Kingdom.

He alleged that the military courts had usurped the role of the judiciary in announcing the verdict. The high courts and the Supreme Court would overturn the decisions.

The opposition leader said international indicators and friendly countries have asked Pakistan to put its house in order.

Replying to a question, he said: PTI has to prepare for the elections, hopefully. Ayub clarified that he has no hope from the next US administration led by President-elect Donald Trump regarding Khan's release.
