Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has warned that Kurdish fighters in Syria will lay down their arms or be buried, amid hostilities between Turkey-backed Syrian rebels and other armed groups since the fall of former Syrian President Bashar al-Assad earlier this month.
After Al-Assad's ouster on Dec. 8, Ankara repeatedly stressed the need to disband the Kurdish YPG militia, saying the group had no place in Syria's future.
The change in leadership in Syria has left the country's main Kurdish factions on edge.

Turkey views the YPG militia as the main component of the US-allied Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), an extension of the banned Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) militia, which is waging a rebellion against the Turkish state since 1984.
The PKK is designated a terrorist organization by Turkey, the United States and the European Union. Ankara has repeatedly called on its NATO ally Washington and others to stop supporting the YPG.
Al Jazeeras Sinem Koseoglu, a journalist from Istanbul, said this was not a surprising statement by Erdogan as it was the official rhetoric of the Turkish government.
Since the YPG is considered the Syrian branch of the PKK, Ankara believes they should either lay down their arms or fight and be defeated, Koseoglu said.
Earlier, the Turkish Defense Ministry said the armed forces had killed 21 YPG-PKK fighters in northern Syria and Iraq.
SDF commander Mazloum Abdi last week acknowledged for the first time the presence of PKK fighters in Syria, saying they had helped fight ISIL (also known as ISIS) fighters. and that they would return home if a full ceasefire was agreed with Turkey, a key demand from Ankara. .
He denied any organizational links with the PKK.
