New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid tribute to former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh by placing a floral wreath on his mortal remains. Union Home Minister Amit Shah and BJP president JP Nadda also visited Singh's residence to pay their respects.

India will observe a seven-day mourning period and government events will be canceled today. The Congress party also announced a seven-day mourning period, postponing its foundation day celebrations.

The funeral will be held on Saturday and arrangements will be made for Singh's final resting place near Raj Ghat, the resting place of Mahatma Gandhi. The public display of Singh's body will begin at the Congress headquarters on Saturday. The schedule of funeral ceremonies will be decided during a council of ministers on Friday at 11 a.m.

Prime Minister Modi remembered Singh as a key figure in shaping India's economic policy. Congress leader Rahul Gandhi expressed grief over the loss of a mentor and guide, while Mallikarjun Kharge and AK Antony described the demise of the visionary leader as a great loss to the nation.
