With cancellation of Yos Suprapto painting exhibition, Jokowi stresses that artistic creativity must be respected
Solo, Beritasatu.com– The 7th President of the Republic of Indonesia, Joko Widodo (Jokowi), gave his opinion regarding the cancellation of the solo exhibition of painter Yos Suprapto at the National Gallery in Jakarta, which was scheduled to open on December 19, 2024 .

We must also respect the political aspirations expressed in a painting, Jokowi told the media team after meeting with Minister of Environment and Forestry (Menhut) Raja Juli Antoni at his residence on Jalan Kutai Utara, Solo City, Central Java, Friday (12/27/2024).
Jokowi continued that the exhibition should still take place. According to him, even if Yos Suprapto's painting contains criticism, this is not a problem because Indonesia is a democratic country.
Therefore, Jokowi said, although he is not yet clear about the shape of the painting, the political aspirations expressed in the form of artwork must also be respected.
So if we show it, we can say that we are a democratic country. I think there is no problem. I don't know which paintings should not be exhibited, but they are a form of artistic creativity that we must respect. “If there is criticism, as I have heard, it is a form of political aspiration that we must respect,” Jokowi said.
Although he only saw it briefly after his assistant showed it, Jokowi felt that the Yos Suprapto painting that was originally going to be on display posed no problem for him.
