President-elect Donald Trump asked the Supreme Court on Friday to halt implementation of a law banning TikTok in the United States on Jan. 19 if the app is not sold by its Chinese parent company.

The court is scheduled to hear arguments in the case on January 10.

President Trump takes no position on the underlying merits of this dispute, wrote D. John Sauer, Trump's attorney who is also the president-elect's choice for U.S. solicitor general. Trump, in his court filing, suggested he could negotiate a political solution to the issue before the court needed to rule.
