SOLO, KOMPAS.com – 7th President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) responding to the controversy surrounding the artist's personal exhibition Yos Suprapto which was canceled at the National Gallery of Indonesia.
Met at his home in Solo City, Central Java (Central Java), Friday evening (12/27/2024), Jokowi admitted that he only learned of the cancellation of the exhibition this afternoon.
Yos Suprapto's personal exhibition has the theme “Awakening: a land for food sovereignty”.

Meanwhile, five paintings depict Indonesian figures who resemble Jokowi.
Knowing this, Jokowi admitted that painting was a form of artist Yos Suprapto's creativity.
“In my opinion, it is the creativity of artists that we must respect and also the form of political aspirations expressed in paintings that we must respect,” Jokowi said.
Personally, Jokowi also has no problem with the existence of paintings considered similar to his own.
“It’s normal, we are normal,” Jokowi said with a laugh.
“I haven't seen it live yet. Yes, as I said, it's the creativity that we have to respect. We also respect the political aspirations expressed in the painting,” he continued.
The two-term president said the exhibition, which was scheduled to be held from December 20, 2024 to January 19, 2024, should not have been canceled.
According to him, such an exhibition should be able to take place because Indonesia is a democratic country.

“So if we show it, we can say that we are a democratic country. I don't think there is a problem,” Jokowi joked.
The former governor of DKI Jakarta hopes that the personal exhibition can be held again.
“Oh, there is no problem, but the authorities don't know that. The gallery or the ministry doesn't know that,” he explained.
“Yes, maybe there are other considerations, I don’t know,” he continued.
