Gibran inspects Jlantah Dam project in Karanganyar, when will Prabowo inaugurate it?
TEMPO.CO, Karanganyar – Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka inspected the Jlantah Dam construction project located in the areas of Tlobo and Karangsari Villages, Jatiyoso District, Karanganyar Regency, Central Java, Friday, December 27, 2024. Gibran was accompanied by the head of the river region center of the Ministry of Public Works, Maryadi Utama.
Monitoring TempoGibran arrived in the Jlantah Dam area around 10:12 WIB. The eldest son of the 7th President of the Republic of Indonesia, Joko Widodo or Jokowi, immediately went to the observation post located there.
Maryadi explained to Gibran the progress of the dam construction project with a capacity of 10.97 million cubic meters with a basin area of 50.45 hectares. The dam is expected to be one of the supports of the national food security program in terms of irrigation benefits and energy security through the benefits of the electrical energy produced.
Gibran then continued to examine several points in the area. However, after the inspection, he did not make a statement to reporters and continued his journey to Wonogiri Regency.
When she met him after accompanying Gibran, Maryadi said the construction of the Jlantah Dam had now reached 98.6 percent. The project is expected to be completed by the end of this year.
“The plan is for the Jlantah Dam to be inaugurated by President Prabowo Subianto on January 7, 2024,” Maryadi told reporters.
He further expressed Gibran's message which highlighted the importance of sustainability of water resources to support agricultural productivity as well as a strategic step in mitigating the impacts of climate change.
“He appreciated our work and, thank God, the building is good and beautiful,” he said.
Gibran also highlighted the opportunity of this dam to support the development of renewable energies in order to reduce dependence on fossil fuels. This is in line with Indonesia's vision to strengthen energy security by diversifying more environmentally friendly energy sources.
For this reason, Gibran hopes that the Jlantah Dam construction project will be completed on time, so that farmers can immediately increase their production. Apart from this, the surrounding community enjoys greater benefits, both economically and environmentally.
Apart from irrigating 1,494 hectares of rice fields, Jlantah Dam is also expected to be helpful in reducing flooding (70.33 cubic meters per second) with an area of 87 hectares, raw water source of 150 liters per second , a potential solar power plant (PLTS) of 10 Mega Watt and Micro Hydroelectric Power Plant (PLTMH) up to 0.625 Mega Watt, as well as tourism.
“For tourism, we have also coordinated with the Regent of Karanganyar who will appoint a reservoir care community that will manage it. So tourism will be managed by people who are members of the reservoir care community who will be able to carry out economic activities in this area,” he said.
