Leader of Opposition in Senate Shibli Faraz on Saturday refuted the false impression that PTI founder Imran Khan was seeking relief in negotiations with the PML-N-led coalition government.

Addressing a joint press conference flanked by Leader of Opposition in the National Assembly (NA) Omar Ayub Khan and former Speaker of the Lower House of Parliament Asad Qaiser and others, Faraz said: The PTI founder remains firm on his principled stand and is serving prison sentences. for the good of people.

The 71-year-old cricketer-turned-politician has been behind bars since August last year after being convicted in the Toshakhana case, one of dozens of cases registered against the former prime minister since his ouster from power in April 2022.

The coalition government and the embattled PTI finally came to the table earlier this week to defuse political tensions in the country. The negotiating committees, formed by the government and the PTI, conducted their high-profile meeting in a conducive environment and decided to continue the dialogue process.

During the fresh interaction with the journalist, Faraz accused the ruling coalition of spreading false propaganda that the PTI founder was seeking relief for himself. He said negotiations would be held on the issue of the release of all political prisoners.

Contrary to Faraz's claims, Qaiser revealed on Tuesday that three key points were presented during negotiations with the government: an end to anarchy in the country, the release of PTI founder Imran Khan and other political prisoners , and a judicial inquiry into the events of May. November 9 and 26.

Replying to a question, Faraz said PTI is a peaceful political party, adding that it was fighting for its rights within the framework of the Constitution and law.

Referring to dozens of cases against PTI leaders, he said they were fighting a legal battle in court despite difficulties.

The PTI leader said the second part of their struggle was a peaceful protest.

He alleged that the existing government was working according to the dictations of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), adding that it did not care about the people.

The international lender approved a $7 billion Extended Financing Facility (EFF) for Pakistan in September and as part of the deal, the government must meet certain financial targets.

He said the coalition government would be responsible if the negotiation between the ruling alliance and the PTI failed.

For his part, PTI leader Omar said that the ruling government was toeing the IMF line and treating the masses cruelly.

Expressing concerns over the uncertainty in the country, he said economic recovery and political stability were linked.

The PTI leader also raised the issue of petrol and diesel smuggling in the country.
